Position:  Software Developer

Department:  Fiber Optics

Reports To:  Chief Operating Officer, Fiber Optic Division

 

Position Summary

 

This position retains primary responsibility for all aspects of the Fiber Optic departmental needs in the areas of initial design, design modification, new product development and product enhancement as it relates software development and maintenance.  Firm working knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within the interferometric measurement industry and electronic circuitry and tools that are utilized. Minimal reliance on instructions and pre-established guidelines and more emphasis on experience and judgment are employed. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected.  Management of multiple priorities and ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization is essential.

 

The Software Developer is responsible for the design, development and maintenance of operating systems and software for fiber optic test equipment, including: user interface; image processing, 2-D and 3-D modeling; development plans and documentation for the software systems and design. Passionate about design, the incumbent will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to develop and implement the design of complex algorithms, modules, user interface and all other software to properly operate interferometric assemblies composed of mechanical, electrical, and optical components.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Specific position requirements necessitate the individual to possess the ability to multi-task, be flexible and effectively plan and manage multiple priorities consistently and accurately.  Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to interact well with all levels of the organization, as well as with external contacts (Consultants, Customers, Distributors, etc.).  Must be pro-active, well organized, results driven and detail oriented.

 

Designs, develops, researches and deploys new methodologies for improved performance (reliability, precision, repeatability) on Norland Products interferometers.

 

Develops systems and products based on customer requirements and information from Sales coupled with extensive experience in interferometry and measurement, researching and testing methods and soliciting observations from operators/peers/others.

 

Confirms system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods and testing properties.

 

 

Desired Skills / Capabilities

 

Expertise developing and managing User Interface Systems.

 

Expertise developing and managing Engineering Change Order processes.

 

Experience with complex tolerance analyses, simulation and data analysis tools and modeling.

 

Experience and expertise with high precision instruments and optical components.

 

Strong understanding of software systems and algorithms utilized in image processing and interferometric measurement systems. 

 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

A BS/MS Degree in Software Development from a fully accredited college or university and 3-7 years’ of experience and/or training specifically in software development, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is required.

 

A strong working knowledge of computers and commercial test equipment. Hands on knowledge of various operating systems and interfaces with various other software packages.  Specific proficiency in the following:

  • Expertise with Linux Based OS, Open Source Code and particular strength in MATLAB.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Project).

Department:  Fiber Optics

Position Summary

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design and development of assemblies for fiber optic test equipment, including: 3-D models and drawings; thermal, tolerance, and stress analyses; development plans and documentation for the mechanical design. Passionate about design, the incumbent will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to develop and implement the design of complex components, modules and assemblies composed of mechanical, electrical, and optical components.

Evaluates mechanical components, systems and products by designing and conducting research programs; applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer and materials.

 

Develops mechanical and electromechanical products based on customer requirements and information from Sales coupled with extensive experience in interferometry and measurement, researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials and soliciting observations from operators/peers/others.

 

Confirms system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods and testing properties.

 

Desired Skills / Capabilities

 

Expertise developing and managing BOMs and managing Engineering Change Order processes.

 

Experience with kinematic design concepts, complex tolerance analyses, simulation and data analysis tools for thermal, stress, and airflow modeling.

 

Experience and expertise with high precision metal and optical components.

 

Strong understanding of supplier fabrication techniques such as electrical discharge machining, fused deposition modeling, and sheet metal fabrication. 

 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

A BS/MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a fully accredited college or university and 3-7 years’ of experience and/or training specifically in development of mechanical, optical and electrical products, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is required.

 

A strong working knowledge of computers and commercial test equipment. Hands on knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and interfaces with various other software packages.  Specific proficiency in the following:

  • Expertise with mechanical system design tools such as Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks and ANSYS (with a particularly strong ability to develop 2-D drawings from 3-D models).
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Project).

Position:  Sr. Chemist - Technical Support/Formulator

Department:  UV Adhesives

Reports To:  President

           

Leader in the field of optically transparent UV curing adhesive needs experienced organic chemist to provide technical service to customers, run QC department and formulate new adhesives needed for specific markets.  Position works with other chemist in company to set up SOPs for QC lab and manufacturing.  Manages own work through planning execution, analysis, documentation and application results.

 Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum B.S. in Chemistry;   M.S. preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly when documenting experiments.
  • Experience formulating and reacting UV, visible light and heat curable urethanes, epoxies and acrylates.
  • Experience using TA Instruments TMA, DSC and TGA machines for analyzing adhesives.
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English.
  • Knowledge and experience with Technical Report Writing and Lab Notebook record keeping.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to work independently.
